The Sun, the Rain, and the Insulin : Growing Up with Diabetes

"This book is a stroke of genius. Dr. MacCracken, a pediatric endocrinologist, has succeeded in writing an excellent book about diabetes in youth......What makes this book truly outstanding, however, is the fact that it is full of wisdom--wisdom which is rarely written down--wisdom that comes from working with, and learning from, children and adolescents with diabetes and their families over a period of many years. I highly recommend this book to all members of the diabetes healthcare team, to families of youth with diabetes, to diabetes camp staff and to interested coaches, teachers, and friends."

It's Time to Learn About Diabetes : A Workbook on Diabetes for Children

A great book that systematically lays out how to deal with a young person's diabetes.

Growing Up With Diabetes : What Children Want Their Parents to Know

Well-meaning parents often make living with diabetes more complex than needed. Diagnosed at eleven, 20-year-old Alicia McAuliffe here uses personal experiences, and those of the kids with diabetes whom she now counsels, to examine issues that often lead to strained family relationships. She shows how the often overlooked social and emotional aspects of diabetes are equally as important to the child as treating the condition itself.

Sweet Kids : How to Balance Diabetes Control and Good Nutrition With Family Peace

Few books address the behavioral and developmental issues surrounding nutrition management in the families of children with diabetes. But recently, 50 pediatric diabetes clinicians and parents of children with diabetes were surveyed to help pull together practical, reassuring advice for parents and caregivers of children with diabetes. The result is an easy-to understand, nonthreatening book that will help you learn all about nutrition and meal planning in diabetes; food, diabetes, and proper development; special areas of concern, such as low blood sugar; self-care techniques for caregivers of children with diabetes; much more. Take advantage of this practical way to educate yourself about how to properly care for a person with diabetes

Even Little Kids Get Diabetes

The school-age protagonist tells the reader how being diabetic affects her life. The story, told in choppy sentences and using incorrect grammar, is condescending, but it will provide parents with a first resource.

This is a great book if you have little ones that have been diagnosed with Diabetes.

The Best Year of My Life, Book 1: Getting Diabetes.

Children's book about diabetes, written in the voice of a newly diagnosed seven-year-old girl, Caitlin, who illustrated the story. The book focuses on the humanness of the girl, her family and the people around her. It's meant to help children with diabetes and their families deal with the jolts and issues that come with a new diagnosis.

Insulin-Dependent Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Adults - How to become an expert on your own diabetes

The book is excellent and I think will have a wide appeal internationally. However, the book is not suitable for everyone, but certainly would be extremely useful to families and young adults who want comprehensive information and for nurses, general practitioners and other health professionals involved in the care of people with IDDM. Congratulations for an excellent and much needed book.
